The Indira Gandhi Canal originates from the ______.
Harike Barrage
The Indira Gandhi Canal (originally the Rajasthan Canal) is one of the longest canals in India, built to carry Himalayan river water to the arid Thar region of western Rajasthan. Its head works are located at the Harike Barrage in Punjab, just below the confluence of the Sutlej and Beas rivers.
From Harike the canal flows roughly 650 km southwest through Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, irrigating districts like Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer and Jodhpur. The Sardar Sarovar and Ukai dams lie on the Narmada and Tapi systems respectively, and Indirasagar is on the Narmada, so none of them feeds this canal. Hence, Harike Barrage.
