The correct answer is

Total frequency \(N = 1+9+26+59+72+52+29+7+1 = 256\).

The cumulative frequencies are 1, 10, 36, 95, 167, 219, 248, 255, 256 against x = 0, 1, 2, …, 8.

Position of D₄:

\[\frac{4(N+1)}{10}=\frac{4\times 257}{10}=102.8\]

The smallest cumulative frequency ≥ 102.8 is 167, corresponding to \(x=4\).

Therefore \(D_4 = \mathbf{4}\).
