Question

Shyam's room has dimensions 5 m × 3 m × 2 m. The room also has a door of dimensions 2 m × 1.5 m and a window of dimensions 1 m × 1 m. If the rate of painting is ₹1.50 per m², what will be the cost (in ₹) of painting the four walls of his room?

SSC GD Constable 2018 Question Paper PDF Hindi (8-Mar-2019) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

42

Area of four walls = 2 × (l + b) × h; the door and window areas are subtracted.

Area of four walls = 2 × (5 + 3) × 2 = 32 m²

Door = 2 × 1.5 = 3 m², Window = 1 × 1 = 1 m²

Area to be painted = 32 - 3 - 1 = 28 m²

Cost = 28 × 1.50 = ₹42

Hence, 42.
