Question

In the following question, four letter-number pairs are given. The letter-number on the left side of (−) is related to the letter-number on the right side of (−) with some Logic/Rule/Relation. Three pairs are similar on the basis of same Logic/Rule/Relation. Select the odd one out from the given alternatives.

(NOTE: Operations should be performed on the whole numbers, without breaking down the number into its constituent digits. E.g.13 − Operations on 13 such as adding /subtracting /multiplying etc. to 13 can be performed. Breaking down 13 into 1 and 3 and then performing mathematical operations on 1 and 3 is not allowed)

The correct answer is

VH530 − AM900

These are letter-number analogy pairs, so we must find the single rule linking the left group to the right group and then spot the pair that disobeys it.

Testing the correct pairs shows a consistent rule: the first letter advances by \(+5\), the second letter advances by \(+6\), and the number increases by \(+370\).

Check AH720: A + 5 = F, H + 6 = N, and \(720 + 370 = 1090\), giving FN1090 — rule satisfied.

Check EM640: E + 5 = J, M + 6 = S, and \(640 + 370 = 1010\), giving JS1010 — rule satisfied.

Check TF810: T + 5 = Y, F + 6 = L, and \(810 + 370 = 1180\), giving YL1180 — rule satisfied.

Now check VH530: V + 5 = A is correct and \(530 + 370 = 900\) is correct, but H should become N (H + 6), whereas the pair shows M, which is only H + 5. The second letter breaks the rule.

Hence the odd one out is VH530 − AM900.
