Question

Select the correct combination of mathematical signs that can sequentially replace the * signs and make the equation correct.

48 * 12 * 8 * 15 * 3 * 44

This question was previously asked in
SSC CGL 2020 Tier-II (English) Previous Year Paper (29-Jan-2022)
The correct answer is

÷, ×, +, −, =

Setup: The expression \(48 * 12 * 8 * 15 * 3 * 44\) has five asterisks that must be replaced so the equation holds.

Step 1 - Test option 2 (divide, multiply, +, -, =): Substituting gives \(48 \div 12 \times 8 + 15 - 3 = 44\).

Step 2 - Apply BODMAS - division and multiplication left to right:

  • \(48 \div 12 = 4\)
  • \(4 \times 8 = 32\)

Step 3 - Then addition/subtraction: \(32 + 15 - 3 = 44\).

Step 4 - Compare with RHS: LHS = 44 = RHS. The equation is balanced.

Hence the correct sequence is divide, multiply, +, -, =.
