Question

Rs. x invested at 8% simple interest per annum for 5 years yields the same interest as that on Rs. y invested at 7.5% simple interest per annum for 6 years. Find x : y.

This question was previously asked in
RRB ALP 2018 CBT 2 Fitter Question Paper (21-Jan-2019) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

9 : 8

Interest earned on Rs. x = (x × 8 × 5)/100

Interest earned on Rs. y = (y × 7.5 × 6)/100

(x × 8 × 5) /100 = (y × 7.5 × 6)/100

⇒ x × 8 × 5 = y × 7.5 × 6

⇒ x/y = (7.5 × 6) / (8 × 5)

∴ x/y = 45/40 = 9/8
