National Policy of Education-1986 recommended nationalisation through :
Generic vocational courses
The National Policy on Education-1986 gave high priority to the systematic, well-planned vocationalisation of education, aiming to enhance employability and reduce the mismatch between demand and supply of skilled manpower.
It recommended that vocational education be a distinct stream at the higher secondary (+2) stage, and that 'generic vocational courses', which are not occupation-specific but cut across several occupations, be provided alongside specific vocational courses.
It set targets of diverting 10 per cent of higher secondary students to vocational courses by 1990 and 25 per cent by 1995, with agriculture, technical and other fields served through such courses.
Hence, the policy recommended vocationalisation through Generic vocational courses.
