The correct answer is

1801

The correct answer is 1801.

The Subsidiary Alliance system was devised by Lord Wellesley, Governor-General of British India (1798-1805), to bring Indian states under British paramountcy. Under it, an Indian ruler had to disband his own forces, accept a British subsidiary force stationed in his territory, cede land or pay for its maintenance, and admit a British Resident at his court.

The Nawab of Awadh, Saadat Ali Khan II, accepted the alliance in 1801, ceding Rohilkhand and the Doab region to the Company in return for military protection. Awadh became one of the earliest and most strategically important states brought under this system.
