Directions : Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :

A volcano is a perfect example of nature’s duality. When it erupts, it is a terrifying force of destruction, spewing hot ash and rivers of melted rock that can wipe out entire cities. Yet, over time, this same violent mountain becomes a source of life. In a volcano, the fierce destroyer and the gentle creator exist together. While the lava burns everything in its path, it eventually cools and breaks down into some of the richest, most fertile soil on Earth. Unlike a quiet hill that never changes, a volcano constantly reshapes the land. It is a dangerous neighbour that farmers still choose to live near because of the incredible crops it helps them grow.

The correct answer is

Its destructive capacity to wipe out cities during an eruption

The passage describes two sides of a volcano: ‘In a volcano, the fierce destroyer and the gentle creator exist together.’ The ‘gentle creator’ is the fertile soil that forms later; the ‘fierce destroyer’ is the eruption described just before.

Earlier the passage says that when it erupts, a volcano ‘is a terrifying force of destruction, spewing hot ash and rivers of melted rock that can wipe out entire cities’. The phrase therefore refers to this power to destroy cities during an eruption.

Being a ‘dangerous neighbour’ is mentioned only in the closing line about farmers; radiating heat across the terrain is not mentioned; and reshaping the land is presented as a constant feature that contrasts a volcano with a quiet hill, not as its destructive side.

Its destructive capacity to wipe out cities during an eruption option is correct.
