Question

In a 2340 m circular race, Siddharth finishes one round in 30 seconds and Yash finishes one round in 60 seconds. How many different meeting points are there on circumference if they are running in a same direction?

RRB Technician 2026 Grade 3 Question Paper (7-Oct-2026) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

1

Track length = 2340 m. Siddharth's speed = \(\frac{2340}{30}\) = 78 m/s; Yash's speed = \(\frac{2340}{60}\) = 39 m/s.

Ratio of speeds = 78 : 39 = 2 : 1 (already in lowest terms).

When two runners move in the same direction on a circular track, the number of distinct meeting points = difference of the ratio terms = 2 − 1.

So there is only 1 distinct meeting point; Siddharth gains exactly one full lap on Yash every 60 seconds and always meets him at the same spot.

Hence, the answer is 1.
