Question

If ‘A’ stands for ‘÷’ , ‘B’ stands for ‘×’, ‘C’ stands for ‘+’ and ‘D’ stands for ‘-‘ , what will come in place of question mark ‘?’ in the following equation?

14 B 2 D 10 A 5 C 12 = ?

The correct answer is

38

Replace each letter by its operation: A → ÷, B → ×, C → +, D → –.

14 B 2 D 10 A 5 C 12 becomes 14 × 2 – 10 ÷ 5 + 12.

Apply BODMAS: 14 × 2 = 28 and 10 ÷ 5 = 2, so the expression is 28 – 2 + 12.

Then 28 – 2 = 26 and 26 + 12 = 38.

Check: adding the positive parts 28 + 12 = 40 and subtracting the negative part 2 gives 40 – 2 = 38, the same value.

Hence, 38.
