The correct answer is

B, D, C, A

Computer hardware technology evolved through four generations, each marked by a defining component:
First generation computers (roughly the 1940s-1950s) used vacuum tubes (B) for circuitry and memory; these were bulky, generated great heat, and consumed enormous power.
Second generation computers (late 1950s-1960s) replaced vacuum tubes with transistors (D), which were smaller, faster, more reliable, and more energy-efficient.
Third generation computers (1960s-1970s) used integrated circuits (C), where many transistors and other components were fabricated together on a single silicon chip, further shrinking size and increasing speed.
Fourth generation computers (1970s onward) are built around the microprocessor (A), which packs an entire central processing unit onto a single chip, enabling personal computers.
Arranging these in chronological, first-to-fourth-generation order gives: vacuum tubes, transistors, integrated circuits, microprocessors, that is, B, D, C, A.
