How does IMEC alliance benefit Indian exporters?
Reduced transportation time and lower logistics costs
The India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) was announced at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in September 2023.
It plans to link India by sea to the Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia), then by rail across the Middle East, and again by sea to Europe.
Such a corridor is expected to cut transit time (estimates suggest by about 40%) and reduce logistics costs for Indian exporters.
It is meant to expand market access, not limit it, and it does not raise import duties or tariffs.
Hence, Reduced transportation time and lower logistics costs.
