Press Esc

In Microsoft PowerPoint, you can exit a slide show and return to editing mode using several methods:

1. Press the Esc Key (Most Common Method)

  • While in Slide Show mode, simply press the Esc (Escape) key on your keyboard.
  • This will immediately close the slideshow and take you back to the PowerPoint editing view.

2. Right-Click and Select "End Show"

  • Right-click anywhere on the slide while in Slide Show mode.
  • Click "End Show" from the menu.
  • This will exit the slide show and return to the editing screen.

3. Use Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Press Alt + F4 → Closes PowerPoint completely (not just the slideshow).
  • Press - (minus key) in some PowerPoint versions to end the slide show.

4. Click on the Slide Show Exit Button

  • Move your mouse to the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  • Click on the three-dot menu (More options).
  • Select "End Show" to exit.
