English traveler William Hawkins visited India during the reign of _______.
Jahangir
Captain William Hawkins was an English navigator and representative of the English East India Company who arrived at the Mughal court seeking permission for the Company to trade in India. He reached the court of the Mughal emperor Nuruddin Muhammad Jahangir at Agra in 1609 and stayed there for about three years, during which he was granted a mansab and a personal audience with the emperor.
Although he could not secure a favourable trade treaty because of Portuguese influence, his visit paved the way for later English embassies such as that of Sir Thomas Roe. Chandragupta, Bahadur Shah and Ashoka belonged to entirely different periods and did not receive Hawkins.
Hence, Jahangir.
