District Project Management Units (DPMUs) initiative launched under PM Vishwakarma scheme in July 2025 comes under which ministry?
Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
The PM Vishwakarma scheme, launched on 17 September 2023, supports traditional artisans and craftspeople (Vishwakarmas) such as carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, potters and cobblers.
It provides recognition through a certificate and ID card, skill training with a stipend, a toolkit incentive, collateral-free credit at concessional interest, and support for digital transactions and market linkage.
The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), which anchors India's artisan and small-enterprise ecosystem.
The District Project Management Units (DPMUs), rolled out in July 2025, were created to strengthen ground-level coordination, monitoring and implementation of the scheme at the district level.
Since the DPMUs operate under the parent scheme, they fall under the same administering ministry, the MSME Ministry.
The Ministry of Rural Development handles schemes like MGNREGA and PMAY-Gramin; the Ministry of Commerce deals with trade and exports; and the Ministry of Agriculture handles farming programmes, so none of them administers PM Vishwakarma.
Hence the DPMU initiative comes under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
