Direction: Study the information carefully and answer the questions given below.

Seven persons have to attend a seminar in seven different months i.e. January, March, April, May, July, August, September. Each of them works in seven different professions, i.e. Dentist, Surgeon, Police officer, Boxer, Journalist, Singer, and engineer but not necessarily in the same order.
U is an engineer and attended the seminar on the month which has 30 days. Two persons attend seminars between U and the one who is a police officer. S attends the seminar just before the one who is a journalist. Three persons attend seminar between R and Q and both of them doesn't attend seminar either in March or May. The one who is a boxer attends the seminar just after the dentist. The one who is a surgeon attends the seminar just after the one who is an engineer. R attend seminar after U. Q and S both are not Police. Boxer attends the seminar in March. T attend the seminar after P but before V.

The correct answer is
S

Seminar Logic Puzzle Solution

We need to determine who attends the seminar in May based on the given constraints regarding months, professions, and people (U, S, R, Q, P, T, V).

Key Deductions and Month Ordering

The months are ordered chronologically:

  • January (31 days)
  • March (31 days)
  • April (30 days)
  • May (31 days)
  • July (31 days)
  • August (31 days)
  • September (30 days)

Step-by-Step Analysis

  1. Profession and Month Assignments:
    • The Boxer attends in March.
    • The Dentist attends just before the Boxer, placing the Dentist in January.
    • U is an Engineer and attends in a month with 30 days (April or September).
    • The Surgeon attends just after the Engineer. This requires the Engineer (U) to be in April (Month 3) and the Surgeon to be in May (Month 4), as September is the last month.
    • Two people attend between U (April) and the Police Officer. This places the Police Officer in August (Month 6), with May and July falling between them.
  2. Placing R and Q:
    • R attends after U (April). R cannot attend in March or May. Thus, R can only attend in July (Month 5) or September (Month 7).
    • Q also cannot attend in March or May.
    • There are three people between R and Q. Let's test the possibilities:
      • If R attends in July (Month 5), then Q must attend in January (Month 1) to satisfy the condition of having three people (March, April, May) between them. This placement satisfies R being after U and R/Q not being in March or May.
      • Other placements for R and Q do not fit the constraints.
    • Therefore, Q attends in January, and R attends in July.
  3. Placing S:
    • S attends just before the Journalist.
    • The available slots are March (Boxer), May (Surgeon), August (Police Officer), and September. The remaining professions include Journalist.
    • If S attends in May (as the Surgeon), the Journalist can attend in September. This satisfies the condition "S attends just before the one who is a journalist".
    • This deduction places S as the Surgeon attending in May.
  4. Final Arrangement Check:
    • The constraint "T attends after P but before V" helps place P, T, and V. With P...T...V sequence and available slots Mar(Boxer), Aug(Police), Sep(?), the logical placement is P in March, T in August, and V in September. This confirms the professions for these slots and assigns P, T, V to these months.
    • The final arrangement satisfies all conditions: Q(Dentist, Jan), P(Boxer, Mar), U(Engineer, Apr), S(Surgeon, May), R(Jul), T(Police, Aug), V(Journalist, Sep). Q and S are confirmed not to be Police officers.

Who Attends in May?

The analysis shows that the Surgeon attends the seminar in May. Based on the deductions, S is the Surgeon attending in May.

Seminar Schedule Summary
Month Person Profession
January Q Dentist
March P Boxer
April U Engineer
May S Surgeon
July R Undetermined
August T Police Officer
September V Journalist
