Question

At what temperature can water be in both liquid and gaseous state?

This question was previously asked in
RRB Group D 2018 Question Paper (22-Sep-2018) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

\(100^\circ C\)

At the boiling point of water (100 °C at 1 atm pressure), water and steam coexist in liquid-gas equilibrium. Heat added at this temperature converts liquid to vapour without any temperature change (latent heat of vaporisation). 0 °C is the freezing point where solid and liquid coexist. Hence water is in liquid+gas states at 100 °C, matching option 2.
