Question

A train covers 60 km at a speed of 80 km/h, 100 km at a speed of 90 km/h, and another 140 km at a speed of 120 km/h. Find the average speed for the complete journey. (Round to the nearest integer)

The correct answer is

99 km/h

Total distance = 60 + 100 + 140 = 300 km. Total time = 60/80 + 100/90 + 140/120 = 0.75 + 1.111 + 1.167 = 3.028 hours. Average speed = 300/3.028 ≈ 99 km/h.
