A study’s findings which hold true outside of the particular content of the research are called
External validity
Validity tells us whether a study really measures and shows what it claims. Internal validity concerns the cause and effect relationship inside the study, that is, whether the observed effect is truly due to the independent variable and not to other factors. External validity concerns generalisability, that is, whether the findings hold for other people, settings, times and situations beyond the study.
The stem speaks of findings that hold true outside the particular context of the research. This is the definition of external validity. It is improved by drawing representative samples, studying natural real-life settings and repeating the study with different groups, so that the results can be applied confidently to the wider population.
Internal validity is about the soundness of conclusions within the study itself, not about their application elsewhere. Face validity is the extent to which a test appears, on the surface, to measure what it is meant to measure. Content validity checks whether a test covers the full range of the concept being measured. None of these refers to generalising findings beyond the study.
Hence, External validity.
