The 38th National Games of India were hosted by Uttarakhand in early 2025 (the multi-sport event was formally held in late January–February 2025). The National Games are India's largest domestic multi-sport competition, bringing together athletes from all states and union territories across a wide range of disciplines.

The athlete who won the maximum number of medals at these Games was Dhinidhi Desinghu, a young swimmer representing Karnataka. Swimming is one of the most medal-rich disciplines at a Games because a single competitor can enter many individual and relay events (different strokes and distances), so a dominant swimmer can accumulate a very high personal medal tally — which is exactly how Dhinidhi Desinghu topped the individual medals count.

The other names, though all celebrated Indian sportspersons, did not top the medal tally here:

• Neeraj Chopra is India's Olympic-champion javelin thrower — a single-event track-and-field athlete, so he cannot amass a large multi-medal count.
• Manu Bhaker is a leading pistol shooter and Bajrang Punia is a wrestler; both compete in disciplines with far fewer events per athlete than swimming, and neither was the top medal-winner of the 38th National Games.
