Renowned Carnatic violinist R.K. Shriramkumar has been chosen as the recipient of the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi Award 2025 by the Music Academy, Chennai. This coveted recognition celebrates his outstanding contributions to Indian classical music, especially within the Carnatic tradition.

Hailing from the illustrious Rudrapatnam family of Karnataka, R.K. Shriramkumar represents a rich musical lineage that has significantly shaped the landscape of Carnatic classical music. He is widely regarded as an authority on Muthuswami Dikshitar’s compositions, and his artistry reflects deep-rooted tradition, technical brilliance, and emotive expression.
The Music Academy has also announced several other honours alongside the Sangita Kalanidhi title:
The Sangita Kalanidhi Award is one of the highest honours in Carnatic music, presented annually by the Madras Music Academy. It is awarded to a distinguished musician who has made exceptional contributions to the field and usually presides over the Music Academy’s annual conference.
