About Raja Raja Chola I

Early Life and Ascension:

• Born as Arulmozhi Varman in 947 CE, later known as Raja Raja Chola I or Raja Raja the Great.
• Ruled the Chola Dynasty from 985 to 1014 CE, playing a pivotal role in the expansion and consolidation of the empire.

Military Achievements:

• The Chola Empire across South India, from Sri Lanka in the south to Kalinga (modern Odisha) in the north.
• Launched strategic naval campaigns, capturing the Malabar Coast, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka, establishing dominance in the Indian Ocean region.

Titles:

• Took the title Pandya Kulashani, meaning "thunderbolt to the Pandya dynasty" after defeating the Pandyas.
• Also called Mummudi Chola, meaning "Chola who wears three crowns", symbolizing his supremacy over multiple regions.

Cultural and Religious Contributions:

• Commissioned the construction of the Brihadisvara Temple in 1010 CE at Thanjavur, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which became a center for religious and cultural activities.
• Promoted Tamil culture by compiling the works of Tamil poets Appar, Sambandar, and Sundarar into the Thirumurai.
