In 2024, Mubadala Investment Company made a significant leap in global sovereign wealth fund rankings, surpassing Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to become the largest SWF investor worldwide. Mubadala deployed an impressive $29.2 billion across 52 deals, a substantial increase from $17.5 billion in 2023.
Mubadala’s strategic investments reflect its expansive global reach, with 85% of its capital allocated to developed markets. The United States alone accounted for 57% of the total investments, highlighting its focus on the world’s most established economies.
Mubadala is part of the influential ‘Oil Five’ group, which includes other key Gulf sovereign wealth funds: Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), ADQ, PIF, and Qatar Investment Authority. Collectively, these funds dominated global SWF activity in 2024.
Shifting away from traditional oil and gas sectors, Mubadala has prioritized diversification by targeting future growth sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), technology, healthcare, and financial services.
