The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Larsen & Toubro Limited for procurement of 155 mm/52 calibre K9 VAJRA-T Self-Propelled Tracked Artillery Guns for the Indian Army under Buy (Indian) category.

About K9 Vajra-T

  • The K9 Vajra-T is a state-of-the-art 155 mm, 52-caliber tracked self-propelled artillery system
  • Developed by: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) with technology transfer from Hanwha Defense (South Korea), based on the K9 Thunder platform.
  • Advanced Armament: The K9 Vajra-T is equipped with a 155mm/52 caliber gun, capable of firing 47kg shells with a range of 40-50 km.
  • Firing Capabilities: It has a burst rate of 3 rounds in 15 seconds and a maximum firing rate of 6-8 rounds per minute for 3 minutes.
  • Fire Control System: Utilizes a digital fire control system, enabling simultaneous multiple-round impact for precise targeting.
  • Mobility & Protection: The howitzer can turn in zero radius for maneuvering in tight spaces, with 19mm thick all-welded steel armor for enhanced protection.
  • Operational Versatility: It is designed for desert and mountainous terrain operations, with winterization kits for cold weather conditions.
  • Strategic Importance: Produced as part of the Make in India initiative, 100 units have been delivered to the Indian Army, enhancing its artillery capabilities in diverse environments.
  • Indigenous Development: Developed under the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP), it aligns with India’s indigenization goals and strengthens its defense capabilities.
  • The K9 Vajra-T provides significant advantages in terms of firepower, range, mobility, and protection, making it a crucial asset for the Indian Army in modern warfare scenarios.
