Ethanol Procurement Prices Revision
Under the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme , the CCEA’s approval to revise the ethanol procurement prices will help incentivize domestic ethanol production. This decision is also expected to drive the integration of renewable energy sources into India’s fuel mix, supporting both the country's energy security goals and sustainable environmental practices.
The revised ethanol prices will ensure Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have adequate access to ethanol for blending with petrol, aiming for a significant reduction in the import of crude oil and fostering the growth of the Indian ethanol industry. This move also supports India’s biofuel policy , which aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, promote rural economy, and provide cleaner alternatives for transportation.
Significance of the Decision
Boosting Domestic Ethanol Production : The revision in prices will provide a higher return to ethanol producers, encouraging more production from sugarcane, maize, and other feedstocks.
Support to Farmers : This move is expected to benefit Indian farmers by creating a sustainable demand for agricultural products like sugarcane, thereby increasing rural income.
Environmental Impact : Ethanol blending helps in reducing carbon emissions from fuel consumption, contributing to India’s climate change mitigation goals.
