Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) is the governmental body that has the responsibility of recruiting candidates for the various posts of civil services in the Government of Maharashtra (GoM). MPSC has headquartered in the city of dreams i.e. Mumbai, Maharashtra.

MPS conducts examinations for the selection of the officer posts at both Group-A, Group-B, Group- C levels. The selection procedure is loosely based on the examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The examination process for various departments consists of three stages of exams which are as follows:

  1. MPSC Preliminary Exam
  2. MPSC Mains Exam
  3. Personality Test/ Viva-voce / Interview Round

Change in MPSC Preliminary Exam date

MSPC Prelims 2020 were supposed to happen in the month of April. But due to Covid-19, the exams were rescheduled two times earlier. MPSC had revised the date for the upcoming state services preliminary examination to 13th September,2020. But it has been postponed again to 20th September,2020 as the earlier date (13th September, 2020) was clashing with the NEET- UGC Exam.

But, on 26th August, 2020, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's office tweeted that "Due to the COVID crisis, all examinations of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) stand postponed till a further date. The revised schedule will be announced in due course." This has been done because of the widespread students’ online protest all over the country who are demanding the postponement of all the examinations

Examination Centres MPSC State services preliminary exam

MPSC had released a notification in which the candidates who had chosen Pune district as their exam centres were allowed to change their centre for the MPSC preliminary examination. The centres were available on a first-apply-first-allot basis. But this decision had met with a lot of arguments as the centre wasn’t made available at all district levels. The application for change was allowed from August 17 to 19, be 2 pm and 11.59 pm.

The Prelims exam is a qualifying exam, and that is why it is conducted in over dozens of cities. The examination centres for the MPSC preliminary exam are as follows:

MPSC Preliminary Exam is just a screening paper which filters the capable students to the MPSC Main. This means that the number of marks obtained in Prelims paper will not be considered while preparing the final merit list. The candidates who qualify the Prelims are passed onto the next stage of examination- Main Exam.

The candidates who clear the MPSC Prelims exam will be allowed to sit for the MPSC Main exam. Till now, there has been no information about the date on which the Main exam will be conducted. As we know, due to the ever-worsening Covid-19 situation, the normal proceedings have been disrupted. Maharashtra has the highest number of Coronavirus cases in our country, which has forced authorities to take this step.

The Main exam is conducted in a very number of cities as only the shortlisted candidates are allowed to give the exam. The MPSC Main examination centres are as follows:

Examination Centre MPSC State services Interview Round

The candidates who clear the MPSC Main examination, are then called for the Interview round. This an overall personality assessment exam where the general suitability of the candidates will be checked. The candidates will be judged upon the soft powers like leadership qualities, communication skills, mental agility and analytical outlook.

The MPSC will issue the list of selected candidates on the official website with their roll numbers and the time of the interview. MPSC Interview Date for the 2021 examination have not been declared yet, due to the obvious reasons of a pandemic situation.
