RRB has released detailed RRB Staff Nurse 2025 eligibility criteria, including requirements for nationality, age, qualifications, and medical standards. Candidates must meet specific educational qualifications such as GNM or B.Sc. Nursing, along with prescribed age limits and relaxations for various categories. Additionally, applicants must fulfill medical fitness standards to ensure they are capable of performing railway duties.

RRB Staff Nurse Nationality

To apply for RRB Staff Nurse 2025 Exam, candidates must fulfill the nationality requirements set by the Railway Recruitment Board. A candidate must be

  1. A citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
  3. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  4. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from countries like Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  5. Such candidates falling under categories (2), (3), and (4) must produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

A candidate who requires a Certificate of Eligibility may be allowed to appear for the examination on a provisional basis. However, the certificate issued by the Government of India must be produced at the time of Document Verification; failing to do so will result in the cancellation of their candidature.

RRB Staff Nurse Education Qualification 2025

RRB Staff Nurse 2025 Educational Qualification requires candidates to meet specific academic and professional criteria set by the Railway Recruitment Board.

  1. Mandatory Qualification
    • Candidates must hold a Certificate as a Registered Nurse and Midwife after completing a 3-year course in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from a Nursing School or Institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), OR
    • A B.Sc. (Nursing) degree from a recognized University/Institute.
  2. Special Concessions
    • The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has provided certain concessions in course duration and requirements for Auxiliary Nurse Midwives, Midwives, and B-Grade Nurses. Candidates who acquire the above-prescribed qualification through such concessions will also be considered eligible for recruitment.
  3. Important Conditions
    • The required educational, technical, or professional qualifications must be obtained from a recognized Institute/University as of the last date of application submission, i.e., 08 September 2025.
    • Candidates awaiting the results of their final examinations are not eligible to apply.
    • The qualification certificates (Provisional or Regular) must clearly mention the date of issue.
    • If the date of issue falls after the closing date of the notification, candidates must provide either:
      • A consolidated marksheet showing the date of declaration of the final qualifying exam, OR
      • Individual semester/year-wise marksheets with the date of declaration, OR
      • A certificate from the Board/University specifying the date of declaration of results.
    • Failure to provide valid proof of qualification dates at the time of Document Verification (DV) will lead to cancellation of candidature.

RRB Staff Nurse Age Limit 2025

Railway Recruitment Board has prescribed a specific age range for candidates applying to the Staff Nurse post in 2025. Applicant must be at least 20 years old as of the cut-off date (not born after 01 January 2006). The maximum permissible age depends on the candidate’s category:

  • Unreserved (UR) / Economically Weaker Section (EWS): Upper age limit is 40 years; candidates should not have been born earlier than 02 January 1986.
  • Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL): Upper age limit is 43 years; candidates should not have been born earlier than 02 January 1983.
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST): Upper age limit is 45 years; candidates should not have been born earlier than 02 January 1981.

Thus, candidates between 20 and 40 years of age are eligible to apply, with additional relaxations provided for OBC and SC/ST categories as per government rules.

The relaxation in the upper age limit for different categories/communities, as shown in the table below, will be applicable only upon submission of valid supporting certificates.

RRB Staff Nurse Medical Standards 2025

Candidates shortlisted for DV must undergo the prescribed medical fitness tests conducted by Railway Administration. These tests ensure that candidates are physically and medically fit to perform the duties associated with the post they have applied for. Among the requirements, Visual Acuity Standards hold particular importance for railway service. The detailed medical standards applicable to different categories of posts are outlined below.

  • If a candidate fails to meet the prescribed medical fitness standards for the post, he/she will not be considered for empanelment, and no alternate appointment will be offered by the Railways.
  • In cases where a candidate is declared unfit during the initial medical examination, a final opportunity may be given to file a Medical Appeal by paying the prescribed charges and following the specified conditions. For candidates who opt for this appeal within the permitted time frame, the outcome of the appeal examination will be treated as final and binding. However, if the medical appeal option is not exercised within the stipulated period, the result of the initial medical examination will be considered final.
