Who expanded the Shannon and ‘Weaver’s Linear model of communication ?
Berlo
The Shannon–Weaver model (1949) is a linear, mathematical model: information source → transmitter → channel (with noise) → receiver → destination. It was designed for technical transmission and said little about the human factors of communication.
David K. Berlo expanded it into the SMCR model (Source–Message–Channel–Receiver) in his book The Process of Communication (1960). He added human factors such as communication skills, attitudes, knowledge, social system and culture of the source and receiver, and content, elements, treatment, structure and code of the message.
George Gerbner proposed his own general model of communication (1956), and Harold Lasswell gave the verbal model "Who says what in which channel to whom with what effect" (1948); neither is the expansion of the Shannon–Weaver model.
Hence, the answer is Berlo.
