Who established the Regional College of Education in India ?
NCERT
NCERT option is correct.
The Regional Colleges of Education — now called Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs) at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysuru and Shillong — were established between 1963 and 1967 as constituent units of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Their explicit mandate is to serve as national laboratories for pre-service and in-service teacher education and for developing innovative school-education programmes across their assigned regions of the country.
NCTE was constituted only in 1993 as a statutory regulator of teacher education, well after the RIEs already existed; UGC deals with higher education, not school teacher training institutions; NIEPA (now NIEPA-NUEPA) works on educational planning and administration, not the running of colleges.
Hence NCERT is the parent body that established and continues to administer the Regional Colleges of Education.
