Who coined the concept of ‘heteroglossia’ ?
Mikhail Bakhtin
Mikhail Bakhtin option is correct.
Heteroglossia — raznorechie in Russian, literally "different-speech-ness" — names the coexistence within a single national language of a multiplicity of social languages: dialects, professional jargons, generational idioms, ideological registers. It is one of the central categories of Mikhail Bakhtin's theory of the novel.
Bakhtin elaborates the concept in the essay "Discourse in the Novel" (1934–35), collected in The Dialogic Imagination. For him the novel is the genre par excellence because it orchestrates these socially stratified voices in dialogic tension rather than subordinating them to a single authorial monologism.
Coleridge developed the theory of the secondary imagination, Hazlitt wrote familiar essays and dramatic criticism, and Ransom is a New Critic associated with "The World's Body"; none of them formulated heteroglossia.
