Question

Which statement about carbon compounds is correct?

This question was previously asked in
HTET 2025 Level 1 PRT Question Paper (5-Jul-2026)
The correct answer is

Catenation in carbon allows formation of long chains

Catenation is the unique ability of carbon atoms to bond with one another repeatedly, forming long straight, branched, or ring-shaped chains. This property, combined with carbon's tetravalency, is the basis of the vast diversity of organic compounds. Carbon compounds are covalent, not ionic, carbon shows a valency of four rather than two, and carbon readily forms double and triple bonds.
