Which one of the following is a facility to file anonymous complaints ?
Gripe Box
Gripe box — option 3.
What it is. A gripe is a complaint or grievance, and a gripe box is a box placed where employees can drop written complaints without signing them. It is one of the standard methods of grievance identification — the problem it solves is that employees will often not raise a complaint openly, for fear of the supervisor against whom it is directed.
Why anonymity matters here. A grievance procedure only works if grievances actually reach management. The commonest reason they do not is that the aggrieved employee must complain, in the first instance, to the very person he is complaining about. The gripe box bypasses that, at the price of the two costs anonymity always carries: the complaint cannot be investigated with the complainant, and the facility can be misused for malicious or frivolous allegations.
The methods of identifying grievances, of which this is one :
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
| Gripe box / suggestion box | Anonymous written complaints |
| Open-door policy | Any employee may approach senior management directly; effective in small firms, unwieldy in large ones |
| Exit interview | A departing employee has nothing to lose and often speaks most frankly of all |
| Opinion / morale survey | Periodic anonymous survey of attitudes, which reveals patterns rather than individual cases |
| Observation and “management by walking around” | The supervisor detects discontent from behaviour — absenteeism, indiscipline, falling output |
Why the other three options are nothing at all. A juke box plays music; “wide box” and “hard box” are not terms in management. They are pure filler, which is a hint in itself — where three options are meaningless the fourth is almost certainly the term being tested.
What follows identification is the grievance procedure: a defined, time-bound sequence of steps — immediate supervisor, departmental head, grievance committee, and finally arbitration — with the principles that the grievance be settled at the lowest possible level, as quickly as possible, and that the employee be told the outcome and the reason for it.
Hence, the answer is Gripe Box.
