The correct answer is

Bhimbetka

The Bhimbetka rock shelters are located in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, in the foothills of the Vindhyan range.

They contain one of the oldest known collections of rock art in India, with paintings that span a huge time range — from the Mesolithic period (Middle Stone Age) right up to the historic period.

The paintings depict scenes of hunting, dancing, animals, and everyday life, made using natural pigments like red and white ochre.

Bhimbetka was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 for its outstanding record of prehistoric human activity.

Hampi and Pattadakal are famous for medieval temple architecture (Vijayanagara and Chalukya), and Nalanda was an ancient centre of learning — none of these are prehistoric painting sites.

Hence, the site with prehistoric paintings from the Mesolithic to the historic period is Bhimbetka.
