Joint ISRO–NASA mission using L and S-band radar

NISAR is an acronym for NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, which by name itself signals that it is a collaborative Earth-observation satellite built jointly by the American and Indian space agencies rather than a single-agency programme.

Its defining technical feature is that it is the first satellite to carry two radar frequencies together on one platform: NASA contributes the longer-wavelength L-band radar while ISRO contributes the S-band radar, both mounted on a large deployable mesh reflector antenna.
