What is the official currency of Cyprus ?

This question was previously asked in
UPSSSC PET 2026 Question Paper (01-Nov-2026) (Shift-2)
The correct answer is

Euro

Cyprus is an island country in the eastern Mediterranean and a member of the European Union since 2004.

On 1 January 2008 Cyprus joined the euro area, and the euro replaced the Cypriot pound as its official currency. The euro remains the currency of the Republic of Cyprus in 2026.

The Cypriot pound was the currency only until 2007, so the pound is no longer official. The dollar is not used there. The Turkish lira circulates only in the Turkish-controlled north, which is not internationally recognised, so it is not the official currency of the Republic of Cyprus.

Euro option is correct.
