RNA stands for Ribonucleic Acid. It is a single-stranded nucleic acid built from nucleotides containing a ribose sugar, a phosphate group and one of four bases — adenine, guanine, cytosine or uracil (uracil replaces the thymine found in DNA). RNA carries genetic information from DNA and directs protein synthesis through its mRNA, tRNA and rRNA forms.
