In a 2-stroke engine the whole cycle of intake, compression, power and exhaust is completed in just two piston strokes, which is one revolution of the crankshaft.

Because the cycle finishes in a single revolution, a power stroke is produced on every revolution of the crankshaft.

In a 4-stroke engine the four strokes span two crankshaft revolutions, so a power stroke occurs only once every two revolutions, which is the real contrast between them.

The claim that a 2-stroke engine has no cooling system is false, because both types must dissipate combustion heat and are cooled.
