Question

What does the given symbol represent in an electric circuit diagram?

RRB Group D 2025 Question Paper (18-Aug-2026) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

A wire joint

In a standard circuit diagram, a solid filled dot drawn at the point where two conducting lines meet is used to show that the wires are electrically connected at that node, i.e. a wire joint.

Variable resistance (rheostat) is drawn as a resistor rectangle with an arrow through it, so that symbol does not fit.

A plug key or switch is shown as a break in the line with a small circle or a lever, not as a dot.

When two wires simply cross without joining, either a small hop (semicircle) is drawn or the crossing is shown without any dot at all.

Hence, the symbol represents a wire joint.
