Two pipes A and B can fill a tank in 48 minutes and 66 minutes, respectively. If both the pipes are opened simultaneously, then after how many minutes should pipe B be closed so that the tank gets filled in 32 minutes?

The correct answer is

Let the total amount of work (filling the tank) be represented by 1 unit. The rate at which pipe A fills the tank is 1/48 units per minute, and the rate at which pipe B fills the tank is 1/66 units per minute.

Let pipe B be closed after 'x' minutes. In 32 minutes, the total work done by both pipes is:

Work done by A = 32 × (1/48) = 2/3 unit.

Work done by B for 'x' minutes = x × (1/66).

The total work is 1 unit, so:

2/3 + x/66 = 1.

Solving for x, we get x = 22 minutes.

Thus, the correct answer is option 1: 22 minutes.
