Question

The volume of a cylinder is 3080 cm3 and the radius of its base is 7 cm. What is the curved surface area of the cylinder?

\(\left(\text{Use } \pi = \frac{22}{7}\right)\)

This question was previously asked in
RRB Technician 2026 Grade 3 Question Paper (7-Oct-2026) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

880 cm2

For a cylinder of radius r and height h, volume = \(\pi r^2 h\) and curved surface area = \(2\pi r h\).

From the volume: \(\frac{22}{7} \times 7^2 \times h = 154h = 3080\), so \(h = \frac{3080}{154} = 20\) cm.

Curved surface area = \(2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times 7 \times 20 = 44 \times 20 = 880\) cm2.

Check: curved surface area = \(\frac{2V}{r} = \frac{2 \times 3080}{7} = 880\) cm2, which matches.

Hence, 880 cm2.
