Question

The ratio of three numbers is 2 : 3 : 5 and their sum is 200. What is the value of the largest number?

The correct answer is

100

The numbers are in the ratio 2 : 3 : 5, so let them be 2x, 3x and 5x.

Sum: 2x + 3x + 5x = 10x = 200, so x = 20.

Largest number = 5x = 5 × 20 = 100.

Hence, the answer is 100.
