The length and breadth of a rectangle are 5 metre and 1 metre respectively. The length of the diagonal of a square is 2$\sqrt{2}$ metre. Then which of the following is correct?

The correct answer is

Area of the Rectangle is 1 sq m more than the area of the square.

Area of rectangle = 5 × 1 = 5 sq m. For the square, diagonal = side × √2 = 2√2, so side = 2 m. Area of square = 2 × 2 = 4 sq m. Difference = 5 - 4 = 1 sq m, i.e. the rectangle's area is 1 sq m more than the square's area. Hence option (A) is correct.
