Question

Select the word in which the silent letter pattern differs from the others.

UPTET 2026 Paper 2 Social Studies Question Paper (3-Jul-2026) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

Alumni

"Autumn", "column", and "solemn" all end with the letters "mn", where the final "n" is silent and not pronounced.

"Alumni" also contains the letters "m" and "n" together, but here the "n" is fully pronounced as part of the word.

Since "alumni" does not follow the silent "n" pattern seen in the other three words, it is the word that differs.
