SSC Selection Post 2025 Graduate Level Question Paper (29-Aug-2025) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A

Assertion (A): The Human Development Index combines national averages of life expectancy, education and income. A country can score high on these averages while a sizeable part of its people still face multiple deprivations in health, education and living standards (measured by the Multidimensional Poverty Index). So A is true.

Reason (R): Because HDI uses averages, it does not show how unequally these achievements are spread among people or regions inside a country. So R is true.

This averaging is exactly why a high HDI can co-exist with high multidimensional poverty, so R explains A.

Hence, the answer is: Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
