Qualitative research is based on ................ philosophy.
Interpretivism
Qualitative research seeks to understand the meaning people give to their experiences, in their own words and settings. It treats reality as socially constructed and subjective, which is the philosophical position of interpretivism (also called interpretive or constructivist thinking, drawing on Weber’s Verstehen).
Positivism, by contrast, holds that reality is objective and measurable and underlies quantitative research with hypothesis testing and statistics. So it is the base of the quantitative, not the qualitative, tradition.
Individualism is a social and political doctrine that stresses the individual over the group, and ad-hocism means acting for the immediate purpose without a guiding principle; neither is a research philosophy.
Hence, the answer is Interpretivism.
