Proton Discovery: Rutherford's Identification
The discovery of the proton is credited to Ernest Rutherford.
In his experiments, particularly in 1917, Rutherford identified the particle carrying a positive charge within the atomic nucleus.
He named this particle the proton, deriving the name from the Greek word 'protos', meaning 'first'.
