The correct answer is

Carbon

Plants need 16 essential nutrients. Of these, only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen are non-mineral nutrients, and carbon is taken directly from the air as carbon dioxide (CO2).

During photosynthesis, leaves absorb atmospheric CO2 through the stomata, and the carbon in it is fixed into glucose and other organic compounds. This makes carbon the plant nutrient that is supplied from the air.

Iron is a micronutrient absorbed from the soil by the roots, not from the air. Nitrogen, although abundant in the atmosphere as N2, cannot be used directly by most plants; they take it up from the soil as nitrate or ammonium ions (after nitrogen fixation), so it is treated as a soil-supplied nutrient. Hydrogen is obtained from water (H2O) absorbed by the roots, not from the air.
