Background of the Rupee Symbol Design
The symbol was officially adopted by the Government of India on July 15, 2010.
D. Udaya Kumar, a postgraduate student of design from IIT Bombay at the time, submitted the winning design in a public contest.
His design combines the Devanagari letter 'र' (ra) and the Roman letter 'R', featuring a white stripe on a red/blue background, symbolizing India's flag and currency.
Therefore, D. Udaya Kumar is recognized as the individual behind the latest Indian Rupee Symbol.
