These two principles are inseparable in existing objects; one cannot exist without the other in the empirical world. A statue requires both bronze (matter) and the shape (form) to be a statue. The form actualizes the potentiality within the matter. This contrasts sharply with Plato, as Aristotle insisted that forms exist within particular substances, not in a separate, transcendent realm, grounding reality in the observable world.
